RYA Safe and Fun Safeguarding – Online

In April 2012 it became mandatory for commercial endorsement holders to complete the online RYA Safe and Fun Safeguarding course.
The course has been designed to ensure that anyone involved in working with children or vulnerable adults at an RYA club or training centre understand current safeguarding issues and how to correctly respond to any incidents. It is also a requirement for newly qualfiying Dinghy/Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors who must successfully complete this course prior to undertaking their instructor training.
As a short course, it will provide essential knowledge and understanding of professional practices and responsibilities and covers the legal framework that commercial operators must adhere to.
Course Objectives- Basic Knowledge and Awareness: Provides a fundamental understanding of working with children and vulnerable adults
- Realistic Scenarios: Offers practical context through realistic scenarios that one might encounter at their club or centre
- Volunteers and Employees: Suitable for those volunteering or working at recognized training centres and affiliated clubs
- Newly Qualifying Instructors and Coaches: Mandatory for newly qualifying Level 2 Racing Coaches, Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors, and Senior Instructors
- Access: Available within the Safe & Fun course
- Completion: Must be completed prior to attending the instructor/coach training course
- Submission: Participants must take the completed worksheet with them to their instructor course
- Safety and Compliance: Ensures that all individuals working with children and vulnerable adults have the necessary knowledge and awareness to create a safe environment.
- Preparation: Prepares new instructors and coaches for the responsibilities they will undertake in their roles.

This course is mandatory for newly qualified Level 2 Racing Coaches, Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors, and Senior Instructors if they completed their instructor course after April 1, 2015.
Yes, the course is open to all individuals. It is beneficial for anyone engaged in teaching or volunteering with children or vulnerable adults in an RYA environment, including clubs or training centres.
The course is exclusively offered online. If you are enrolled in instructor training, you will additionally participate in a classroom session as part of the training programme. However, the main course content must be completed online.
If you are qualifying as a Level 2 Racing Coach, course information and login details will be issued when you sign up for your Racing Coach course.
The course is compatible with Windows PCs, Apple Macs, iPads, and Android tablets.
While the course content is equivalent to approximately three hours of classroom training, the advantage of online learning is the flexibility to progress at your own pace. Completion time may vary depending on individual learning speed.
While the certificate itself remains valid indefinitely, it is important for your training centre, club, or organisation to have a policy in place for ongoing staff training to keep everyone updated. This policy may involve periodic requalification through the course or participation in other pertinent safeguarding training. Please consult your organisation’s guidelines for precise information.
