In April 2012 it became mandatory for commercial endorsement holders to complete the online RYA Safe and Fun Safeguarding course.

The course has been designed to ensure that anyone involved in working with children or vulnerable adults at an RYA club or training centre understand current safeguarding issues and how to correctly respond to any incidents. It is also a requirement for newly qualfiying Dinghy/Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors who must successfully complete this course prior to undertaking their instructor training.

As a short course, it will provide essential knowledge and understanding of professional practices and responsibilities and covers the legal framework that commercial operators must adhere to.

Is it possible to take this course in a classroom instead of online?

The course is exclusively offered online. If you are enrolled in instructor training, you will additionally participate in a classroom session as part of the training programme. However, the main course content must be completed online.

If you are qualifying as a Level 2 Racing Coach, course information and login details will be issued when you sign up for your Racing Coach course.

How long is the course?

While the course content is equivalent to approximately three hours of classroom training, the advantage of online learning is the flexibility to progress at your own pace. Completion time may vary depending on individual learning speed.
