In April 2012 it became mandatory for commercial endorsement holders to complete the online RYA Safe and Fun Safeguarding course.

The course has been designed to ensure that anyone involved in working with children or vulnerable adults at an RYA club or training centre understand current safeguarding issues and how to correctly respond to any incidents. It is also a requirement for newly qualfiying Dinghy/Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors who must successfully complete this course prior to undertaking their instructor training.

As a short course, it will provide essential knowledge and understanding of professional practices and responsibilities and covers the legal framework that commercial operators must adhere to.

Basic Knowledge and Awareness: Provides a fundamental understanding of working with children and vulnerable adults
Realistic Scenarios: Offers practical context through realistic scenarios that one might encounter at their club or centre

Who Needs to Take the Course?

Volunteers and Employees: Suitable for those volunteering or working at recognized training centres and affiliated clubs
Newly Qualifying Instructors and Coaches: Mandatory for newly qualifying Level 2 Racing Coaches, Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors, and Senior Instructors

Access: Available within the Safe & Fun course
Completion: Must be completed prior to attending the instructor/coach training course
Submission: Participants must take the completed worksheet with them to their instructor course
