RYA VHF-GMDSS Marine Radio Assessment

Part 1: Complete an SRC/VHF Radio Training Course

Option A: Complete the RYA SRC/VHF Radio operator course in a classroom setting.

• Course Format: One-day training course with an instructor guiding through the VHF/GMDSS Syllabus.
• Exam: Conducted late afternoon of the training day.
• Frequency: Courses run twice a month.

Option B: Complete the RYA SRC/VHF Radio operator course online.

• Course Duration: 6-8 hours, progress at your own pace.
• Flexibility: Work through the syllabus at times convenient to you.

Part 2: Complete Practical Radio Operation and Exam (Direct Assessment)

• Duration: 1 hour assessment at an RYA Recognised Training School.
• Location: Can take place at Falmouth School of Sailing in Cornwall or any other RYA Registered Centre.
• The Assessment is split into two distinctive parts:
  • Part 1: Complete a 25-question written paper, achieving 16 or more out of 25.
  • Part 2: Practical radio operation exam.
