In April 2012 it became mandatory for commercial endorsement holders to complete this online course.

It is a short course designed to provide essential knowledge and understanding of professional practices and responsibilities and covers the legal framework you need to adhere to in your status as a commercial operator.

Who Needs to Take the Course?

New Applicants: All new applicants for the commercial endorsement must complete the course before submitting their application to the RYA (Royal Yachting Association).
Existing Endorsement Holders: Those who obtained their endorsement before April 2012 are required to complete the course before their next revalidation. More details are available through the link on the right.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Regardless of your specific job on board, in the commercial maritime world, you are considered a professional seafarer. This equates your responsibilities with those of a cruise liner captain. You have a duty of care to your crew, passengers, and other water users, and you will be held accountable if something goes wrong. Your tasks might include:

Delivering a new 35’ yacht
Operating a workboat with lifting and towing equipment
Managing a superyacht in the Mediterranean

Course Format and Support

This is an interactive online course, including the examination. Falmouth School of Sailing will enrol you in the course. Our instructors will be available to assist you with any queries during the online course.
