Our range of shore-based courses include VHF Radio, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory and RYA First Aid. Each course is delivered at our well-equipped training centre in Falmouth by highly experienced individuals, each of whom have been leaders in their respective fields and bring with them extensive real-life experience.

Who We Are

At the helm of Falmouth School of Sailing are Rob and Rachel Thurston, keen sailors and long-standing Cornish residents.

Rob was born in Farnham in Hampshire, learning to sail at the ripe age of 3 before moving to Cornwall aged 19 to attend Falmouth Marine School. He was so taken with the area that he didn’t return home, forming roots and building his life on the Cornish coast.

Rachel is a true born and bred Cornishwoman who grew up sailing with her family, venturing across to the Isles of Scilly and exploring the local area from the water.

Living in Cornwall means they have a strong affinity with the sea and outside of the office they spend their time in, on and around the water along with their children and ‘meet and greet’ dog, Milo!
